The Destination Domains community is the culmination of an idea that I began discussing with several people on the evening immediately after the Nominet Registrar Conference in January 2015. For some time I have wanted to begin a new domain name community to offer a better discussion experience than I have found in existence to date. I have chosen the name Destination Domains (spoken as destination dot domains) because I firmly believe that certain new gTLDs are here to stay, helping to better describe some web content that we all currently engage with. It seemed a no-brainer decision to launch this site using a .domains domain name given it's primarily about domain names and the industry surrounding them. Those interested in domain names should find that the selection of destination.domains makes perfect sense since I hope for this community to become a great destination for domain name discussion.

I intend to devote extensive space to .uk domain names since I have primarily been involved in the .uk arena for over a decade. I also intend to devote more space to gTLDs and new gTLDs alike because it seems likely that more of us will be taking an interest in a wider selection of domain name extensions in the future.

You can reach the community using either http://destination.domains or the shorter http://dest.domains. If you decide to join please look out for emails coming from the "c.dest.domains" sub-domain name and add it to your whitelist. Please also consider following us on Twitter via @destdomains.

I hope to make destination domains a success and look forward to helping bring a new, forward thinking domain name discussion community to life. I hope you'll want to be a part of it. :)

      Best,

      David Thornton

@Matt, thanks for joining and also for posting your kind message above. :) I am aware of your username elsewhere but I'll leave it to you to decide if you wish to mention it. Welcome also to @Humble Pie who I have also known of for a long time, much of that under another username, and also welcome to both @Lucien Taylor and @Elaine.

Good to see another community popping up that may be of interest @david thanks for hint that the forum is here :) Already some familiar faces/names.

Good choice with Xenforo. Hopefully see it grow a little :)

Hi @Adam H and thanks for joining. This site has been active for a few weeks and I expect it to be a project that requires continual promotion and quality, relevant content to become a success. Everyone I know that has operated a forum has told me that it takes a lot of time so I am prepared for that.

I am open to suggestions, in public or via private messaging or email. I like Xenforo and am pleased it became the final choice, despite liking discourse.org as well. I feel Xenforo is a more mature product than discourse appears to be for the requirements.

I added you via Twitter because I don't believe it is fair to publicly spam other domain name forums advertising this forum. I hope to maintain good relations with other forums because I feel there is room for differentiation. One size just doesn't fit all. Personal referrals are better so if you (or any other member reading) know of anyone else you think might be interested in joining here, please let them know.

You made the right choice in my opinion, Discourse is nice but you will have much more flexibly with Xenforo going forward as native forum product, if your gearing towards being a forum as people know them then its a safe option, Discourse would have been a culture shock for some but it would open different kinds of doors depending on how you wanted to grow. Neither is a right or wrong, just different to where you want to end up. Forums do indeed take time, lots of it :)

Don't mind the twitter add at all.
